School’s out for summer! So the battle cry goes. But for those of us who like to keep organized all year round, the summer sun is no excuse to slouch.
Whether you are a teacher, a group leader or parent, there are fun ways to either catch up or stay ahead of the game during the summer in preparation for the fall school year.
1. Stay on Top of School Supply Sales!
As fall approaches, it can often be a mad dash to gather together all of the school essentials, like paper, notebooks, crayons, pencils…the list does not end! Take it easy this summer and collect all of the school must-haves and more gradually. It may seem simple, but clipping coupons over the summer during Sunday morning breakfast, picking up a few items here and there rather than running to fill the supermarket cart at the last minute has the potential to provide some much-needed peace of mind.
2. Discover Your Inner Healthy-Food Chef this Summer
Whether you are packing a lunch for yourself or have an assembly line for multiple sack lunches each school day, it never hurts to try out new recipes incorporating new ingredients and healthier supermarket choices.
We’re huge fans of discovering delicious and healthy foods for kids – it’s a main focus of our Field Trips! Before school is back in session, make it a challenge to discover a few new healthy treats you love and kids will love. You can use the supermarket as your guide, hop online for a great deal of resources, but most of all, have fun and get creative in the kitchen before the rush-rush-rush of back to school.
3. Carve Out Time to Get Organized
The school year is a flurry of papers, projects, notes and reminders. Waiting until the end of August to refresh your designated “School Year 2014-2015” binder, folder, planner, etc. can quickly become overwhelming. Finding what works best for your schedule is the place to start. It’s easy to say “I’ll do it when I have time”…but who has time, really?! First step? Find an hour or two, spread out over a couple of days that you can dedicate to organizing. If you’re anything like us, a good checklist makes a project like this worthwhile. Starting fresh over the summer will feel fabulous when the new school year rolls around before you know it. Teachers know – it’s important to keep all of your lesson plans in order. Be kind to yourself…give yourself a break in the fall when you take a tiny bit of time to organize this summer.
