Students can watch reenactments and feel the power of being in the exact spot some of the most important events that shaped our country took place. In addition to battlefields, there are numerous American history destinations you can visit all across the country that will enrich young people’s understanding of our nation’s heritage.

The American Battlefield Trust’s Field Trip Fund provides funding and assistance to K-12 teachers, who are planning field trips to the Civil War, War of 1812, or Revolutionary War battlefields or related historical sites.

Last year alone the Field Trip Fund sent more than 7,500 students from 24 states to historical sites all over the country. Teachers must apply for the funding by describing their ideas for class field trips on an application that can be found on the website. Funds can be used for transportation, admission, and guide fees. Only one class per school district per school year will qualify for funds that range from $250 to $1,500.
